Welcome to this week's newsletter. Having just returned a few weeks ago from this year's Masters in Augusta I have a few people ask me what we actually got up to when we were in the US. Paul and Jackie Rushbrook who came with me this year kindly wrote a summary of their week and I thought that I would share it with you all to whet your appetite for next years Trip.
Masters Golf Trip 2014
We arrived at approx. 14:00 US time on Sunday 6th April and after settling in the hotel and having a meal at the local hostelry had a good night's sleep. Monday saw us drive to Oakhills Golf Club, this took around 30 mins, where we went and warmed up on the driving range. Our buggies were already loaded with our clubs by the course employees. The course was fabulous and we found very little rough but the greens were like putting on lino! Unfortunately a thunderstorm moved in and we were called off of the course after nine holes
Day two saw us play Spring Valley Golf & Country Club and after 18 holes and a spot of lunch the group decided to go out and play another 9 holes, this day the weather was kinder and the sun shone through a cloudless sky.
On the Wednesday we headed off to Augusta for practice day and the famous Par 3 Competition. Again the weather was glorious as we walked the main course watching many of the players fine tuning their game for the start on Thursday, we watched the Par 3 competition in the afternoon were the players can relax with their families, some of whom caddy for them. The practice days are the only time you can take cameras into Augusta which is a must so not to miss the stunning scenery. You cannot take any food or drink onto the course but we found the food and drink being sold very reasonably.
Thursday saw us play our third round of golf this time at Columbia Country Club and once again we played an extra 9 holes after lunch.
Friday was Masters Day for us and we followed most groups around the course or sat in some of the many stands dotted around the course, all of these are free and you can sit for as long as you want. The fairways at Augusta must be seen to be believed and the ground staff were cutting these right up to the start of the Masters.
Saturday, and a lay in! We had the day off which we spent doing a bit of shopping in the local mall which is just 10mins drive away.
Sunday and another round of golf this time at Cobblestone Country Club and once again hot day and superb course. Afterwards we settled down in the local Columbia Ale House and watched the closing hours of the Masters.
I have already had a few enquiries into next year's Trip so if you are considering coming on this amazing Trip please just send me an email by clicking here or give me a call and I will be happy to go through the Trip with you.
Special Congratulations must go to Rob Came who won the Pro's Friday Roll-up with 22 points with a handicap of 2! Rob topped his evening off nicely with a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole and a 2 on the 6th.
This was Rob's 3rd hole-in-one and I'm sure that there will be many more to come......or at least everyone in the bar hopes so!
Well done Rob.
