The Ryder Cup

It's around two weeks until the bi-annual match play event where Europe's finest players travel across the Atlantic to face the Americans. A few weeks back we mentioned the European team and who were potential wildcards, this time we focus on Captain Davis Love's wildcard selections and what they will add to the strong looking line-up.

The make-up of the American team is slightly different, with the captain being able to select four players compared to the three that rival Darren Clarke can select.

Three out of four were picked earlier in the week, with the final remaining choice being saved until after the American PGA tours flagship event the Tour Championship has been completed. Love has selected Ricky Fowler, despite having a dip in form during the point scoring qualification period, the Cobra players fighting spirit and experience, despite his age will benefit the team. His second choice was ever dependable Matt Kuchar, the 38 year old regular winner is one of the most consistent players in the world and his game perfectly suited for the foursomes format.

Third pick was big hitting JB Holmes, widely regarded as one of the longest hitters in golf, ideal for the birdie fest that is needed in the four ball. Surprise admission is double Masters Champion and left hander Bubba Watson, his unique and individual style divides many, however he is one of the most talented golfers around and currently the 7th best player in the world. I believe he will be the final selection. One problem could be a surprise winner of the Tours flagship event and will Love then select this inform player ahead of Bubba? Guess we will find out in the future.

Ryder Cup Prize Draw

Purchase either two sleeves of Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1 X or a dozen Velocity, NXT tour, NXT tour S or DT Trusoft and choose either Team Europe or Team USA (or a tie!).

All those correct guesses will go into a draw to win £60 worth of Titleist golf balls.

Competition news

Cancer Relief Goblets

Congratulations to John and Liz Savery on winning this competition with an impressive score of 42 stableford points. A large entry of 26 pairs resulted in £118 being donated to charity. John recently changed his driver after a fitting with Jack in the indoor swing studio, he now plays a PING driver, it's obviously performing well.

Remember we fit for FREE and are confident we can improve everyone's overall distance and accuracy with the latest technology.

Ladies Veterans Salver

Pam St Leger and Wendy Laud emerged victorious against Ann Best and Roberta Price by a 3/2 margin in a low scoring better ball match. Wendy mentioned Pam played particularly well!!

Again Pam recently changed her fairway woods to the Ladies Callaway range. Callaway are set to release some new equipment very shortly, come and view the clubs in the shop in the coming weeks.

Junior academy

Last Saturday saw the re-start of the Academy after the summer holiday break. Record numbers now mean we have 5 groups running during the day which is great for the future of the junior section.

Places are still available to join for any child aged five years and older, please contact the Professional shop for further details and to sign up.

Shop news

Its a perfect time to re-grip your clubs, we stock many different makes, styles and sizes.

Check out our grip bar in the shop and bring in any clubs that you feel that may need re-gripping.

We will provide a FREE assessment and run through the options.

Prices start from £29.99 for 9 clubs re-gripped and we aim to complete within 24 hours.

Why Re-Grip?

Grips are made of materials that age and wear as a function of time. Ozone, heat, dirt, and oils from your hands all age your grips and cause the natural degradation of the grip.

The traction that a fresh grip provides lets you hold the club lightly without the subconscious fear of losing the club during your swing. This relaxed state promotes proper swing mechanics and wrist action.

While a worn grip causes you to grasp the club tighter, causing arm and wrist tension that inhibits proper swing mechanics.
