Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.

Callaway Demo Day
We had some interesting fittings at our recent Callaway Demonstration Day, so much so I thought that I would share one with you. Some of the findings with the NEW Callaway Epic Driver were particularly interesting.
Most of you are now expecting me to tell about how the Epic Driver is fantastic and will hit the ball 20 yards further down the fairway for you. With some of you this may be true but the thing that surprised me most about this new Driver was the difference of those shots when you didn’t quite catch it. This was truly amazing!
Let me explain, if you look at the photo below I will explain the comparisons between this customers own Driver and the new Callaway Epic Driver.
The first difference you will see from the photo is the Club head speed on the Callaway Driver was quicker than their own. This was due to a combination of the Club being more aerodynamic and the shaft working better for the customer. Although the Club head speed was improved by 3 mph (74.1 mph to 77.5 mph) the impressive stat is the ball speed from the Callaway has gone up by nearly 5mph (from 107.5mph to 112.3 mph). This is due to the technology in the head of the Epic Driver, and therefore if the ball is coming off the face quicker it will certainly travel further.
If you now compare the Carry distance and Total Distance figures, the Callaway has carried an average additional 15 yards longer and an additional 20 yards total distance. This is all great news for the customer but the really impressive bit for me was when the customer miss hit a shot.
Just look at the longest and shortest distances with their own Driver (156 yards- 188 yards) 32 yards difference between their best and worst shot versus 176 yards- 206 yards = 30 yards difference.
Almost the same dispersion I hear you say, and you are correct, but just look at the worst shot with the Callaway driver, it is some 20 yards further down the fairway!
Those of you who have lessons with me will often hear me say during the lesson that we are trying to improve on your worst shots, or hit ‘Good Bad Shots!’
Let's face it everyone hits bad shots from time to time but if your worst shot from the tee is 20 yards further down the fairway and your best shot goes an additional 20 yards too, you have yourself a win win situation.
