6 hole shoot-out

You may have seen some flyers up recently for the 6 hole shoot-out running on Tuesday afternoons. This is a great fun competition running from 4.30pm on Tuesday and open to all. Tee times can be booked online but there is also the possibility of rolling up on the day. The format is a fun 6 hole stableford competion followed by a sudden-death playoff on the first hole. The clubhouse is open late with food also available and a great grandstand for spectators to watch the intense finale!

Last night saw one of the busiest evenings so far and lead to a very tense play-off between Keith Crawford, Ashley Crow, Malcolm Breton and the academy’s own Noah Mulligan. Noah hit a solid shot on the green but raced the putt by which made for a tense, knee wobbling, 3 foot putt for the win. Thankfully the bold, youthful confidence of Noah allowed him to smash the ball into the back of the hole and pocket his share of this weeks purse. Congratulations Noah.

There was also a Ladies category running last night, however with a fantastic score of 16 points, the ladies felt Trish Gledhill was a deserved winner and handed the prize over without playing off. Congratulations on some excellent golf Trish!

Even with a slightly smaller head the G400 is still the most forgiving driver they have ever produced. The smaller head, increased turbulators and ‘Vortec’ technology all equate to more club head speed with less effort.

Report from Thurlestone Tennis

Despite some poor weather conditions there has been a great start to the holiday season for the tennis section at Thurlestone Golf Club. Four ‘Cup Events’ have already taken place with the usual high standard of play.

The Woodhead Cup, a senior mixed doubles event had a young feel to it with the brother and sister pairing of Will and Tilly Swan, both still students showing an excellent display of mixed doubles beating Mary Swan and Nick Woodhead in a close final.

The July and Lepere Cups had a total of 30 children battling it out for honours. In the July Cup 10-13 years, Will Dawson and Lucy Cleverly came out worthy winners, while in the older age group with a lack of girls Jack Cleverly and Rafa Teniente took the trophy after a hard fought final.

The ‘Quaich’ was the hardest hit by the weather. This event should combine golf over 9 holes in the morning and round robin tennis in the afternoon with pairs consisting of a 16 years and under junior and an adult. The golf was completed in the morning but with the rain increasing and the grass courts out of action the tennis was abandoned and the trophy presented to the pair at the top of the leader board after the morning’s golf.

Prizes were presented in the bar to:

3rd place tied with 17 points - James & Charlie Witter and Gordon & Will Dawson

2nd place with 19 points - Jonathan and James Simpson Dent

Winners were well known local players - Jonathan and Sammy Ingham with an incredible 21 points.
