Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we talk about how to generate power without swinging faster, we review last weekend's GolfSixes where England and European Women impressed, and we take a look at the luckiest ever shots on the European Tour.

Fitting news

Two exciting demo and fitting days next week at Thurlestone

Tuesday 15th May we have the Yonex fitting and demo team 11- 4 pm
Thursday 17th May with the Mizuno DNA fitting team 12 – 4 pm.

Both companies will be bringing the latest models of woods, irons, hybrids and wedges for you to try.
Yonex is famous for its lightweight graphite shafts and state of the art weighting systems allowing you to get the most distance from your swing speed.

Mizuno are famous for their soft forged steel irons giving the ultimate in control and feel. Mizuno have just won the ultimate driver test in the MyGolfSpy awards for the ST180 model and the demo team will have all shafts and lofts for you to try. The demo team will be here on Thursday from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Please note that all fitting appointments will be 45 minutes long and will be FREE of Charge. If you would like a full set fitting we will need to book a double session (90 minutes). We look forward to hearing from you.

Special Congratulations

To the men’s Palairet team who defeated Saunton Artisans at Tavistock golf club on Sunday. The matches were played in good spirit and were all close and once again went down to the final match, I am glad to say Thurlestone came up trumps by winning 3 matches to 2 . The team will now play Dartmouth at Stover Golf Club in the next round on the 3rd June all support most welcome. Well done boys and good luck in the next round.

We had 18 Couples play in the John Batchelor Trophy mixed competition on bank holiday Monday. Both Nick and Jo Crispin and John and Jane Mahood had an excellent 41 points. John and Jane had two twos on the back nine which helped sneak them a win on count back.

Ireland triumph as others impress

Whilst many of you spent the Bank Holiday weekend basking in glorious sunshine – and we don’t blame you – 16 pairs battled it out in the second edition of GolfSixes. Split into four round-robin groups to begin with, only the top two pairs from each could proceed to the quarter-final stage, which saw both all-female teams (England Women and European Women) make it through to the final eight. Sadly, both female teams failed to advance to the semi-finals, with England Women losing out to eventual winners Ireland, represented by Gavin Moynihan (who has failed to make a single cut so far this season) and Paul Dunne.

Ahead of golf’s unofficial fifth major taking place at TPC Sawgrass this weekend, Australia’s Jason Day has returned to world’s top 10 after a superb display at the Wells Fargo Championship. Taking place at Quail Hollow – the scene of last year’s PGA Championship – Day shot a gritty 69 on Sunday to finish two clear of his nearest challenger, admitting afterwards that he ‘had no idea where the ball was going, especially off the tee.’ For those of you wondering, yes Tiger Woods did play but he finished in a lowly tied 55th.

Trust = Power
