Winter Conditions
With the winter fast approaching and some wet weather having hit over the past couple of days, I would like to focus your attention to gaining optimal performance from your driver. In order to hit your longest drive is it important to balance out your launch and spin rates in order to reach the optimum carry. If you ball is flying to low or too high you could be losing out on precious yards. No more so does this become apparent than in the winter.
Many times have I heard golfers mutter about 'keeping it under the wind' and as such picking a low lofted driver. Sadly, this is not quite true. Although a low lofted club should launch the ball lower it is actually your backspin which will be creating the unwanted stalling in the wind.
With the tour driver average moving up to an all time high of 9.2* there is a lot to be said about increasing your carry distance to gain extra yardage. In fact in 2014 we saw the first PGA Tour win with a 12* lofted driver! Top marks if you can guess who that was…
With the new trend in drivers heading to higher launches and low spinning drivers, this has a great benefit to all golfers. Increasing the loft of your driver by just one or two degrees can see huge gains in carry (and roll when conditions allow). By using the GC2 launch monitor in the shop we can accurately record all aspects of your shots and explain how we can improve your driving over the winter period. If you have an adjustable driver we can make alterations or we can talk you through the different options in order to squeeze out those extra yards on your drive!
So next time you're out playing, take a look at your drive and see how the ball reacts when it hits the ground. Usually people perceptions of a 'high' ball flight really aren't high enough at all!
