Junior Presentation Evening
Last Saturday was our 2nd Junior Presentation Evening since the launch of the Thurlestone Junior Academy back in 2013.
The day began with a competition for all levels of Juniors within the academy. We had an 18 hole Stableford Competition, 9 hole and 4 hole Texas Scramble to accommodate Juniors of all levels. Sadly the weather was not always on our side but the Juniors had an enjoyable day and for some a first taste of the golf course was had.
The 18 holes Stableford Competition was won by George Messias and 2nd Place was Lucas Mulligan
The 9 hole competition was won by Alfie Messias, and 2nd Place was Oscar Chapman.
The 4 Hole Texas Scramble was won by Jack's team consisting of Noah Mulligan, Emma White, Dominic Holt-Wilson and Harry Cross. Nicknamed the 'Dream Team' they certainly produced scoring an excellent 21 shots over 4 holes. Not bad for a combined age of just 30!
The Evening Presentation began at 4.30pm which consisted of a Junior Prize Giving, Thurlestone Junior Academy Presentation and an excellent handover speech by Jamie Johnson.
We had an excellent attendance with over 70 Juniors and Adults enjoying the evening. I'm extremely pleased to say that we have had a very successful year with the juniors and long may it continue!

- We had 38 Active Juniors in 2013 and now 61 Active Juniors in 2014
- The Club ran 27 FREE Monday Night Junior Evenings averaging 15 Juniors per week!
- In 2014 Thurlestone Juniors represented Devon in the U14's, U16's and U18's, with George Holland Captaining the U14's
- Last Year we had 19 Blue Tee's players and 8 Red, Compared with 24 Blue and 20 Red this year.
- The 16 lowest handicap juniors further reduced their handicaps by a cumulative of 50 shots!
Rob Came strikes it hot!
This week's Midweek Stableford was dominated by an excellent level par round by former Junior Rob Came. Scoring 40 points and reducing his handicap from 4 to 3. Rob has recently been in to have a full iron fitting with Jack.
Moving from his Mizuno Cavity Back Irons Rob was fitted into a brand new set of PING S55 irons. Rob's previous irons were all standard off the rack irons in regular flex which couldn't be much farther from what he needed!
During the fitting we discovered Rob was using the incorrect length, lie and shafts!
With Rob being one of the fastest swingers in the club is was essential he used stiffer shafts. Not only did we give Rob a Stiff shaft we also equipped his irons with a KBS Tour shaft in order to raise the launch angle on his ball flight. This would reduce his dispersion whilst still keeping the height on the shot, a must!
Overall we had a very successful fitting session and Rob is more than pleased with his new set. He was even quoted 'Even the bad ones are going straighter'. Well done Rob.
