Dan joins a new club... We started with Dan’s current driver, a 2013 Taylormade SLDR 460cc. It was set to be an interesting fitting as much of the same technology from this driver is still in use today - the sliding weight and 460cc head - and have all been included in this year's TaylorMade SIM line up. Of course, there have been some improvements in regards to materials used and also making the face as hot as possible. But does that really make a difference though? Firstly, we had Dan hitting some drives with his own driver and current ball choice, TaylorMade TP5. Whilst this gave some fair results (averaging 270 yards) it was clear the ball was still spinning too much and as such he was really losing out on some yardage. Our first move was to switch him out to the TP5x ball, a lower spinning alternative, which were of course given to Dan afterwards for taking part in this fitting! Secondly, we started playing around with a couple of options before resulting finally to a familiar face - the Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero. You might remember this one from John’s fitting last week! A slightly different shaft this time in order to give Dan the ‘heavier’ feel he prefers coming in 11 grams heavier than his own SLDR shaft, which doesn’t sound like much, but it really made a difference! |
