Welcome to this week's newsletter. We start this week by introducing our Captains for 2015, Bill Hutchison and Kay Morley.
Bill is an 8 handicapper and has been a member here at Thurlestone since 2007. He is an active member who has represented the Club in friendlies and Club matches.
Bill has chosen to support the local charity 'Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer' which is based at Derriford Hospital. It was started in 1999 to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer for local people. The Charity has already helped fund 6 nurses in Devon and Cornwall and has raised money to buy state of the art equipment for use at Derriford.
Kay is a steady 23 handicapper who has been a member at Thurlestone for 30 years. Kay has also represented the Club in various Teams over the years. Some of you may recognise Kay from her time running the Thurlestone Shop in the village.
Kay's chosen Charity for her year of Captaincy is Parkinson's. This is disease that affects 1 in every 500 people in the UK and the money that Kay raises this year will help fund research into better treatments, and possibly a cure, and also find ways to improve the quality of life for those suffering from Parkinson's.
I think you will agree, two worthwhile charities of which I'm sure that both Bill and Kay will get plenty of support.
I would also like to wish Chris Holmes and Tom Orr a successful year as Senior's and Junior's Captains respectively.
Playing in the wind and rain
With the recent weather we have been having I felt it important to focus this week's newsletter on playing in poor conditions. It has been great to see so many people out on the course even with the high winds and showers.
With golf very much a feel orientated game, it is essential we keep warm and flexible in order not to restrict movement. Having the correct clothing on can make a massive improvement to your range of movement and enjoyment in poor weather. We have put together a small list of some excellent items here in the shop that will help keep you warm and dry in the colder months.
Upper Body: Compression Tops - Under Armour / Galvin Green
Items such as the compression tops from both Under Armour and Galvin Green can really help to retain body heat and as such reduce the amount of layers needed. Wearing garments such as compression tops not only reduces the heat loss but also minimises restriction throughout the swing. With the 4 way stretch and light fabrics used they can make a huge difference to the golf swing.
Lined Sweaters - Glenmuir
Available in both men's and ladies the Glenmuir lined sweaters make a great addition to any wardrobe. Not only are they lined to protect from the wind, they also feature a waterproof coating to protect from any light shower. They have been extremely popular already this season and really help on those blustery Thurlestone days!
Waterproof Jackets - Galvin Green / Sunderland / Under Armour
We have a great range of waterproof jackets for both men and ladies in store. There are many different benefits to each jacket which means we can find one which perfectly suits your needs. All jackets in store come with a minimum 3 Year guarantee and start from just £59.99.
Winter Trousers - Under Armour / Green Lamb
We have some excellent lined winter trousers in store which have also been very popular this winter, as they not only keep your legs nice and warm but they act as a windproof garment. There is no need to put those waterproofs trousers on and find yourself over heating whilst wandering up those Thurlestone hills.
We have extended our free fitting service for January and February. So if you are considering changing your Clubs/Equipment in 2015 then please just give us a call on 01548 560715 or click here.
