Following the recent success of our Men's Palariet Team, our Juniors nearly repeated the success at the Junior County Finals at Stover Golf Club last Monday. The young Junior Team narrowly lost by 3 games to 2 in the final to an impressive Yelverton Golf Club Team.

Our Junior Team squad is filling up nicely year on year from our Thurlestone Junior Academy and naturally it is now becoming quite competitive to get your place in the team, which is great news for the Club. In fact in a few years time our Men’s Palariet Team had better watch out!

The Finals team are pictured here looking very smart in their new uniform. Our Juniors Team will be in action again next Saturday as they attempt a ‘Sponsored Golf Marathon’ with the Team attempting to play 4 rounds of golf in one day. 

They are looking to raise money for the Junior Club Funds and also Diabetes UK, which is Junior Captain, Tom Orr’s chosen charity for this year.

If you feel you would like to support the Junior Team, we have Sponsorship Forms in the pro shop and we will be collecting any sponsorship on behalf of the Juniors.

The Quaich

This event was postponed from July due to atrocious weather, and was eventually played on a cloudy but luckily fine day in late August. 

It brings together the Golf and Tennis sections of the Club with a 9 hole Greensomes Stableford in the morning and Round Robin tennis in the afternoon. There were 12 pairs for the replay which have to be of a different generation and juniors must be 16 years and under.

The leaders after the golf were Stewart Barnes & Finn Whelan (19) Martin Eyre & Ben Woods (21) Adam & Olly Walker (22) looked set to fight it out for the honours, but they had to win enough games in the all important tennis. The last result to come in was 17 games from father and son partnership of James and Michael Woodthorpe, which added to their Stableford score gave them the lead with 34 points. A very close contest!

The trophy was donated by Judy Beacroft and prizes were also presented to second and third positions.
