Welcome to this week's newsletter,
The focus in this newsletter to help you try and improve your putting with some simple, yet effective tips! Many golfers sadly do not give putting the attention and respect it deserves. With weather poor at the moment this might be something to concentrate on in your own living room!
With the average golfer spending over 40% of their shots on the green this is a key area in which most people can save at least a couple of shots a round without making major changes! We think you should…
1. Focus is the Key
Concentration is very important when putting, with each shot worth the same whether it is a 1 foot putt or a 200 yard drive, it is imperative you give each shot your full concentration. For those of you who watch the golf on television, how many pro's use a routine before each putt? Yep, all of them!
A simple putting routine including practice swings to the side of the ball can help not only in confidence but also improve your distance control immensely. By stepping to the side of the ball it gives you chance for a rehearsal of the upcoming putt, making the real thing that little bit easier.
2. Pick your spot!
When asking their target most golfers will give the obvious answer 'the hole', sadly this is not quite precise enough for my liking! If you can focus in your aiming to the smallest point possible (even a blade of grass) it will really improve your concentration.
Focusing on just the hole is a relatively large area in which for you to hit, should you miss, your misses tend to be a lot larger. You will be amazed of the difference simply focusing on a smaller point can make.
3. Line-m-up!
Many golfers do not mark their ball at all, others scribe their initial to hope someday a lost ball may return to them. Most Tour Professionals will draw a large line around the circumference of the ball, why? Every little bit of help you can get with alignment you should take. If you have a line or markings on your putter you should use them to improve your aim.
Manufactures are not putting aids on golf clubs to make them look pretty! Having a line on your ball and also on your putter can make it much easier for alignment by combining the two. Other manufacturers such as Odyssey use contrasting colours to make it easier for the eye to spot when the putter is open or closed. A putter aligned 1* offline can make the difference between a holed putt and a missed putt, can you reall afford to give away simple shots like this?
Line-M-Up's are available in store for just £5.99. That could be the bargain of the year if it saves you 3 shots a round!
Next time you miss a few putts, ask yourself, did you give it your full attention? There are many other ways we can improve your putting, from new grips, lessons or even a new putter. Click here to get in touch.
