I ventured out last weekend for my second competitive round of the year in the 325 Centenary Cup which was being played at Teignmouth Golf Club.
This event, organised by Mike Allen, is like no other in our golfing calendar, involving all sectors of our Club, including the Club Professionals, Captains, Presidents, young and old, High and low handicappers. With 27 participants from each of the 3 Clubs (Thurlestone, Teignmouth and Bigbury) it was Teignmouth's turn to host this years event to celebrate their Centenary.
The course was in excellent condition and and the heather and slick greens were testing for all.
Whilst my day personally was a little mixed I did have a stroke of fortune on the Par 3 16th hole where I managed to get a hole-in-one!
Fortunately, I had 128 yards to the flag which was the exact yardage my 3/4 wedge. The most pleasing part was that I struck it beautifully and it never left the flag. It had one bounce just short of the flag the second just past the flag and then gently spun back into the hole!
This is just my second hole-in-one in 40 years of golf- so clearly this doesn't happen very often!
Teignmouth kindly gave me a Whiskey tumbler and a bottle of whiskey with their Centenary logo as a momento which was very kind of them.
Thurlestone team came second on the day to Teignmouth so we are all looking forward to next years event which will be back here at Thurlestone.
