The Hero World Challenge

The PGA Tour has entered its natural winding down of 2024 with one of the last events on this year’s calendar being the Hero World Challenge, held at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas. At the head of the impressive 20-man field was Scottie Scheffler, who won by six strokes. The American both defended his title have won the event last year, and secured his 9th trophy for 2024.

Hosted by Tiger Woods, the Hero World Challenge is an annual staple on the PGA Tour that features a small selection of top-ranked pros, including those high in the Official World Golf rankings and those hand-picked by the Tiger Woods Foundation. Woods himself has taken part in the tournament before but opted out of this year’s event as his health continues to recover.

Cameron Young was the initial round leader having carded an opening 64 with Scheffler among those close behind having started with a 67. Scheffler continued to card impressive scores, and a final day 63 sealed the deal as he ended the tournament on 25-under-par, 6 strokes ahead of second-placed Tom Kim.

Scheffler is highly renowned for performing well under pressure, and you must have been living under a rock this year if you’re not familiar with his 2024 successes. Among them is his second Masters green jacket, an Olympic Gold medal, and the Players trophy. The New Jersey native has now entered his 82nd consecutive week as the World No.1 golfer, having overtaken Jon Rahm back in April 2023.

His final hole was a calm masterclass in golf, having hit a textbook drive, stellar approach shot, and securing his 4-foot birdie. Effortlessly claiming his 9th win of the year, Scheffler admitted he was thrilled with his performance but rather than resting on his laurels, he’s gearing up for 2025:

“It’s really nice. I did some good things on the course this week and played a lot of solid golf and I’m fortunate to be lifting the trophy. Our next season starts in only a couple of weeks, so I’m going to go home get a little bit of rest and continue to work on the things I’ve been working on this off-season and get ready for the season to start.”

It certainly seems like Scottie isn’t slowing down anytime soon. If you’re headed to the course to play your own golf this week, why not pop by the pro shop for a chat? We’re always available and happy to consult you.
