TPC Sawgrass awaits

We’re merrily making our way through March with each day getting steadily lighter, and The Players Championship is set to play out this weekend. It’s an excellent time of year to be a fan of golf.

Following on from the Arnold Palmer Invitation and often heralded as the 5th major, The Players always gets the clubhouse buzzing, and feels endearingly synonymous with the start of Spring.

There have been 50 Players Championships since the tournament’s establishment in 1974, 36 of those trophies having been held by American hands, and 3 of them by Jack Nicklaus.

Scottie Scheffler won last year’s event when he beat his Ryder Cup teammates Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman by a single stroke. But who do you feel could be victorious this year?

There are many iconic twists and turns throughout the revered fairways and greens that line TPC Sawgrass, and none more so than the 17th island green. Perhaps one of the most famous holes in all of golf.

Looking fantastic from all angles, the 17th is undoubtedly the most televised section of the course. There has been a total of 14 aces made on the 17th during the Players Championship, with one having been achieved every year since 2022.

Feeling every bit as adrenaline-fuelled as the stadium-like 16th at TPC Scottsdale and as challenging as the windy 16th at Carnoustie, Sawgrass’s 17th always promises plenty of golfing spectacle.

Will we see a hole-in-one at this year’s event? We’ll soon know the answer this weekend. If you’re playing golf yourself this week, why not pop by the pro shop for a chat? We’d love to help you with any golfing queries.
