TaylorMade Qi4D Training Day — Celtic Manor Recap

Last Friday, I headed up to Celtic Manor for a full TaylorMade training day, and it was genuinely amazing. I got to spend time with both the custom fitting and product teams going through all of the new products coming through for 2026, understanding what has changed, why it's changed, and how it all ties together for a better fitting experience for players. SO

Hands-On Learning & Equipment Breakdown

We had proper hands-on sessions where we built different heads/shafts, tested them in the bay, and looked at the data so we understood not just what’s new, but why it matters in fittings. By the end of the day, we knew exactly how to match players into the right head/shaft combo with far less guesswork.

A Closer Look at the New REAX Shafts

Another big part of the day was understanding the new REAX fitting shafts. Instead of simply reacting to ball flight, REAX starts by analysing how you release the club from a side-on view. Every player falls into a low, mid, or high release profile, and interestingly, this has nothing to do with speed or handicap; it’s purely about delivery and sequencing. REAX focuses on achieving a consistent strike; once the strike is achieved, the player and fitter work together to alter ball flight and direction with adjustments to the driver head. By fitting to release instead of just ball data, the shaft begins to work with the player rather than forcing compensations. For golfers, this means more consistent strike patterns, tighter dispersion, and faster fitting.

Three Driver Heads, Three Clear Purposes

We also broke down the new driver lineup: LS, Core, and Max.

  • LS is the lower spin head for players who produce more spin naturally or swing it quicker.
  • Core is the balanced middle option that will suit the majority of golfers, offering a really good launch/spin window.
  • Max prioritises forgiveness and stability, maintaining ball speed across the face and tightening up dispersion on mishits.

Having three heads with genuine differences makes fitting far easier and far more player-specific.

My Own Testing — A Surprising Fit

Back in the studio, I tested the new Qi4D myself, and the REAX side of things actually surprised me. I genuinely expected to be a low-release player based on how my swing feels, but the analysis showed I’m the complete opposite — a high-release player with really active hands through impact. That instantly explained a lot about why certain shafts have felt great on my best swings but unpredictable on my average ones. Once I paired the correct REAX profile with the right head, everything synced up much better. Performance-wise, the Qi4D was brilliant:

  • Ball speed was right up at the top of my usual window
  • I hit some of my longest drives yet
  • Off-strikes kept their ball speed
  • Dispersion tightened once everything matched my delivery

Overall, I was very impressed with the new QI4D, especially given that I don't always find the middle of the clubface, as shown in my data.
